High CBD Strains

High CBD Strains of Cannabis are widely used in cannabinoid medicine to treat the endocannabinoid system without the “high” from THC.

High CBD strains can either be industrial hemp, medical hemp or medical cannabis cultivars. Industrial Hemp is legally defined as having a low level of THC (<0.3%) and may be legally grown, processed and traded under certain agricultural farm programs.

High CBD Industrial hemp with very high CBD:THC ratios is often referred to as medical hemp and are often the result of breeding industrial hemp varieties to High CBD Medical Cannabis Strains.

High CBD medical cannabis strains are drug-type crops which have been selected for high CBD production, but often still have levels of THC >0.3% and are not legally allowed to be grown as hemp crops.

CBD:THC ratios of High CBD Strains

To qualify as a high CBD strain cannabis should have CBD of >5% and a high CBD:THC ratio.

Industrial Hemp Strains CBD Potency

Most industrial hemp has CBD potency of 1% to 5% with THC content of <0.3%

Industrial Hemp CBD:THC ratios are typically 3:1 to 15:1.

Industrial hemp biomass can be processed to produce CBD isolate and other products.

Medical Hemp CBD Potency

High CBD Medical Hemp are Industrial Hemp strains specially bred and grown for high levels of CBD production while remaining Industrial Hemp compliant. High CBD Medical Hemp use typically has CBD potency of 10% to 20% and THC content of <0.3%

Medical Hemp CBD:THC ratios are typically 10:1 to 50:1

Medical hemp Flower can be processed to produce high quality CBD rich hemp oil, CBD distillate, isolate and other products.

Medical Cannabis CBD Potency

High CBD Medical Cannabis bred and grown for medical use typically has CBD potency of 5% to 20% and THC content of 0.3% to 10%

High CBD Medical Cannabis CBD:THC ratios are typically 1:1 to 20:1

Popular examples include Charlottes Web, Cannatonix, Harlequin and AC/DC

Medical Cannabis Strains include many strains with approximately equal levels of CBD and THC. These will still be somewhat intoxicating so are subject to much greater regulation than medical hemp flower and extracts.

High CBD Hemp Genetics

The inheritance of CBD and THC production has been well documented. Modern agricultural methods such as Marker assisted breeding programs have recently allowed more effective and faster selection for desired CBD:THC ratios resulting in a boom of low THC varieties that still produce large amounts of flowers and resin rich in CBD.
